OMAHA, Neb. — Saint Joseph-London Hospital in London, Ky., designed by international architecture, planning, engineering, interior design and program management firm LEO A DALY, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 21 at 11 a.m. as part of the hospital’s opening celebrations. The ceremony includes tours of the new building.

A community sneak preview party will be held Friday, July 23 for the public, with tours, refreshments, music and giveaways from 5-9 p.m., in advance of the hospital’s official opening date of August 19.

The new $152 million, 325,000 square-foot facility is a technologically-advanced, faith-based hospital replacing an 89-bed acute care hospital. The new 120-bed facility includes a shelled sixth level for an additional 30-bed unit.  It is the first hospital in Southeast Kentucky to provide extensive, specialized cardiac care and surgery. Additional outpatient and inpatient health services include critical care units, surgery services, birthing center, laboratory facilities and an emergency department.

In designing the hospital, LEO A DALY evaluated operational efficiencies, patient comfort, staff environments, safety, family spaces and ease of navigation to create a building that allows for patient-focused delivery of care. Each patient room is private, with windows providing views to the lake and natural landscape, and designed to promote healing while improving safety and reducing injury for staff and patients. The hospital also focuses on family comfort and offers areas for family members to stay with patients as well as areas of repose, such as a full service café, a coffee kiosk and a paved walkway around the adjacent lake.

The hospital was designed incorporating the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) design standards and utilized the latest Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. Located on a 50-acre site, the building’s sustainable features include efficient mechanical systems, light sensors and abundant windows offering daylight.

Saint Joseph-London is a member of Saint Joseph Health System, a 981-bed, eight-facility healthcare system that spans central and eastern Kentucky. Saint Joseph Health System is a member of Catholic Health Initiatives, the nation’s second-largest Catholic healthcare system.
