Concord Engineering Begins Construction on $34M Project to Cut Energy Consumption at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro

Concord Engineering Group was awarded engineering, procurement and construction management for a $34 million project at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro (UMCPP) that will provide a carbon emission reduction equivalent to taking 1,900 cars off the road per year.

NRG Thermal, LLC, a subsidiary of Princeton based NRG Energy, Inc., owns and will operate the plant that is now under construction. This comprehensive system, referred to as CHP+NRGSM, includes three 24,000-lb/hr. boilers, three 1,000-ton electric chillers, a 700-ton steam absorption chiller, a 4.6 MW gas turbine generator, a heat recovery steam generator, emergency backup generators, and a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system for off-peak chilled water production.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Two established San Francisco-based architecture firms, Jennings Ackerley architecture + design and LDA Architects have announced a joint venture agreement to provide highly specialized, design-build architecture and engineering services to the healthcare and bioscience industries. The new venture has recently signed with San Francisco General Hospital to provide on-going planning and design services for the hospital facility. AckerleyLDA will be responsible for providing sustainable interior and exterior design and field inspection services pursuant to the terms of the three-year, $1 million contract.

Burns & McDonnell Completes Engineering Design and Construction Management for First Phase of On-Site Power Facility Serving Texas Medical Center

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Burns & McDonnell has completed engineering design and construction management for the first phase of a $330 million upgrade of Thermal Energy Corporation’s district energy system serving the Texas Medical Center in Houston. Thermal Energy Corporation (TECO) hosted a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, August 24, celebrating formal commissioning of a new Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plant comprised of a 45-megawatt combustion turbine generator and a heat recovery steam generator producing 270,000 lbs/hr of steam. The CHP plant was recently placed into commercial service and is now providing electricity to the TECO plant and thermal energy in the form of steam and chilled water to 18 medical institutions located at Texas Medical Center, the world largest medical center.

Trinity Medical Center Moves Forward with Plans for Replacement Hospital

Administrative Law Judge Recommends Relocation from Current Campus to New Birmingham Facility

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Trinity Medical Center achieved a major victory in its effort to gain state regulatory approval for a new, state-of-the-art hospital facility on Highway 280. Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) James Hampton has issued his recommendation in favor of granting the required Certificate of Need (CON) for Trinity's relocation from its 44-year old campus on Montclair Road to the new hospital facility. The decision follows months of deliberation and a comprehensive review of the facts during what was the longest ALJ hearing on a healthcare matter in Alabama history.

Kindred Healthcare Signs Definitive Agreements to Acquire Five Hospitals and Three Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers

Facilities are located in growoing southern California and Dallas-Fort Worth cluster markets

LOUISVILLE, KY -- Kindred Healthcare, Inc. (the “Company”) (NYSE: KND) today announced that its subsidiaries have signed a definitive agreement to acquire five long-term acute care (“LTAC”) hospitals from Vista Healthcare, LLC (“Vista”) for a purchase price of $180 million in cash.
